THE STYLISH STUFF: ABOUT FACE

Make up trends come, they go, but of course there are looks that will always stay firm favourites in the repertoire of most women. Every season the designer catwalk shows offer fresh takes on these, whether it’s a new way to apply bronzer, a slick of coral lipstick applied with fingers as opposed to a brush, or maybe a feline flick on the eyes using an earthy toned eyeshadow as opposed to kohl. It’s not so much about a brave new face of make up, it’s about playing with new shades and methods of application to update your look. The Stylish Stuff favourite make up artist, Lisa Valencia takes inspiration from the catwalk make up at Balmain, Dolce & Gabbana and Celine and guides us through the process of recreating these looks ourselves. Yes, for the first time The Stylish Stuff brings you ‘how to’ videos and we’ve joined forces with Bobbi Brown to showcase their exciting new product offerings. We hope you’ll love the results.

Bare Faced Chic from Balmain. Gorgeous, glowy and natural. ‘Less is more’ is a prevalent trend for make up next season, making great skin prep and light reflecting bases and powders an absolute must.

What’s in your make up bag? First stop Tom Ford’s Primer to create a luminous, healthy looking skin, followed by;

‘Skin Foundation Stick’ – an easy, portable, ‘in your handbag’ foundation; ‘Creamy Concealer’- applied after foundation just where you need it; ‘Nude Finish Illuminating Powder’ in ‘Bare’ (launching 25th FEB) – this is the tinted moisturiser of powders and for people who are anti-powder but want to set their makeup; ‘Medium’ Bronzing Powder – really blendable and perfect for contouring; ‘Bronze Glow’ Highlighting Powder- a silky strobing powder with a hint of bronze; Blush in ‘Desert Pink’- pop it onto the apples of your cheeks for a pretty flush to the look; ‘Saddle’ Long-Wear brow gel (launching 24th MARCH) – scruff the brows up and get the product on the skin to get a bolder finish; ‘Nude on Nude’ eye palette (launching 25th FEB)- a throwback to the early 90’s, this is the exact replica of Bobbi’s original nude eye palette and a best seller, simply because these shades are so flattering and easy to apply; finish with ‘Intensifying long-wear mascara’ in black- (the teeny wand gets every little lash, creating a fanned out look) and a slick of ‘Blush’ on the lips from the new ‘Nourishing Lip Colours’ (launching March 24th). Hot Lips at Celine. Yes, a deep orange or scarlet red lip is still great armour. This modern proposition works well with a nude, pared back make up look for daytime – it’s all about the lips.

…and for evening, add more contouring and a touch of bronzer for a warmer, ‘take me out’ look. We loved Bobbi Brown’s ‘Electric Coral Art Stick-lip’, easy to apply and the perfect shade for all skin tones. Dress, Ghost, Earring, Cornelia Webb.

Mmmmn, my new best friend in lip colour.

The first flush of spring? Thank you Dolce & Gabbana for this super pretty take on pastels. Soft pinks, a hint of a sexy flick on the edge of the eye make this the new going out look.

Pretty as…Juul  in a look inspired by Dolce & Gabbana.  Fresh, understated and girlish, it features a soft pink lip, a gentle eye flick using powder shadow versus kohl and a dewy, flushed complexion. Innocent? Maybe. Dress, Ghost, earrings Pilgrim.

What’s in your make up bag?  For this look Lisa used the same products and techniques for the base, brows and eyes, but added ‘Blush Duo’ in ‘Sand pink/Pale pink’ to the apples of the cheeks and used the darker shade from the ‘Nude on Nude’ eye palette to add a softened flick to the eyes. The look was finished off with a luxurious coating of ‘Eye-Opening Mascara’ and ‘Pink Cloud’ Luxe Lip Colour. All Bobbi Brown http://www.bobbibrown.co.uk
